E-MYTH RESPONSE

by: Lea Aubrey Q. Jularbal, Gungab Leyte Philippines

INTRODUCTION
An amazing book, why is it? It details the core of the real business, how it operates, making your business profitable and expanding. The first time I saw the cover I was intrigue of the thoughtful title of it. It grabs my curiosity about businesses.
I was overwhelmed of the knowledge Mr. Michael E. Gerber imparted unto his readers. Many people are caught by the entrepreneurial seizure and wanted so much to start owning a business but the only problem that I now realized that few people do some groundwork and research about the business that they want to start.

The book states the three types of individual the technician, the manager and the entrepreneur. Each of us differs in the personality that is strongly manifested in us. Some are born with a mind of an entrepreneur, eager and easy to see opportunities and solution to a need and a problem along the way. Having an open mind to meet a critical need and act upon that need.

The things I read and learned opened my mind to a new perspective I had about doing business. We can be what we want to be and enjoy the fruit of our labor. The book details the steps in the life of a business. Some businesses work and grow from small to maturity. Gerber illustrates and teaches the importance of working on your business rather than in your business. Having a system is very much important in the industry that it might not be dependent upon you. That it will continue to work and grow even if you are not there all the time to oversee it. When one chooses to be an entrepreneur one must be prepare to accept to get out of our comfort zone. Growing together with our business is a part of a learning process that teaches us about life as well. When we choose to be an entrepreneur we must anticipate problems along the way. And we must know how to deal rightly to those problems along the way. It is very needful to keep on learning and following your system. We can be productive as we perceive things as they really should be and not doing it our way.

The E-Myth book is an eye opening to identify the work you are doing on your business. Whether you are helping it to grow or degrade its value and significance to you and to those who are reliant of it. The book is very useful to me and I know also to those who will gain more knowledge just by applying the things learned. It is a learning process for those who are accepting faults as they continue doing their business.

REACTION

The book imparts lots of things for our learning. I like what I learn and it increases my knowledge and understanding. The most essential part in having a business is one should know what your business is. The strength and weaknesses of it, can bless you as well as other people. The E-Myth book of Gerber helps us understands the reason why most small businesses don’t work and what to do about it.

Part I. Why small businesses don’t work.
There is an entrepreneurial myth and it is also widely known as the fatal assumption. It states that “If you understand the technical work of a business, you understand a business that does that technical work.”
But “The technical work of a business and a business that does that technical work are two totally different things!”
It is true. Lots of times when we thought that we are capable of doing business out of the job that we are good at. That we are much better than our employer and much knows the work than other people. Then we are not thinking properly. Our experience as a technician is very much poles apart than the experience of an entrepreneur. At first we maybe excited of the prospect of earning a profit out of our personal labor but as things are beginning to pulls apart because we are not capable of running the changes that may happen in our business then we cut down to the basic again. Starting all over and learning all over on knowing how to operate more effectively the business that we are handling it is totally a waste of time but an experience nonetheless that requires improvement on our part. We should get out of our comfort zone in order for us to develop and accept responsibility for in doing business it is necessary to access new skills, understanding, knowledge emotional depth and new wisdom.

Part II. What to do about the small business that doesn’t work.
One of the main reasons why small businesses don’t work is that it lacks organization or we can call it the system. You don’t need to have a perfect employee or the knowledgeable one for your business to prosper but even in ordinary people to do extraordinary things, a system “a new way of doing things” is absolutely essential in order to compensate and to produce consistent results. If you want to be successful on your business act like one who is. Thinking of franchising prototype is a great motivational force that would help us accept the changes that will come along the way.

Part III. Building a small business that works.
Building a small business that works is a very challenging and a wonder to behold as the entrepreneur grows and bend for the growth of the business, not just the entrepreneur but the business as well. Learning our desires and ambitions that we want to reach and knowing what we really want keeps us motivated on achieving what truly matters to us. Thinking positively that we can make it through storms and problems are very much helpful. Innovate and accept changes as we makes enhancement on our business venture will make small businesses really works.

The greatest secret in handling a business even if you are not there is to have a system. Your business should be system oriented rather that people oriented. Like for an example in a traffic. The traffic lights represent the system that even if no one is around to supervise the flow of the traffic there is no accidents that’s going to happen. While the traffic policeman represents the people oriented system meaning without them there would likely be a jam in traffic. While having a systematic oriented business you can now work on your business rather than in it.

Grow, change, enhance, innovate, make it systematic, achieve your goals, make a primary aim, meet a critical need, have a double vision, solve a problem, never, never, never give up will make any individual though not totally an entrepreneur by heart but learning step by step makes you successful and your business prosperous and fruitful.

Don Juan said in Tales of Power, that “The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge while an ordinary man takes everything either as a blessing or a curse.”

Choosing who we are from the two different people will tell us who we are. Our business represents who are. It a mirror of who we really are.
